Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate [197 km]
Embark on your 4-day adventure from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert with an early morning pick-up from your accommodation or the airport. Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the famous Tizi-n-Tichka pass, offering panoramic views of the stunning landscapes below. Stop along the way to capture the breathtaking scenery. Next, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic kasbahs. This fortified village, made of earthen architecture, has appeared in blockbuster films such as Gladiator, Alexander, and Game of Thrones. After exploring the kasbah, continue your journey to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert,” where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and overnight stay in a comfortable hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Nkob – Rissani – Merzouga Desert [372 km]
After a hearty breakfast, your adventure continues with a visit to the famous Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, where numerous blockbuster movies were filmed. Explore the Taourirt Kasbah, a historic mud-brick fortress showcasing southern Morocco’s traditional architecture. Leaving Ouarzazate behind, travel through the picturesque Draa Valley, following Morocco’s longest river, adorned with lush palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and charming Berber villages. Pause for lunch in the tranquil town of Nkob or Alnif before continuing your journey to the Merzouga Desert, passing through the historical town of Rissani. Once you reach the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, exchange your car for a camel and embark on a peaceful trek through the desert. As the sun sets over the dunes, witness a magical desert landscape before arriving at your traditional desert camp. Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley [273 km]
Rise early to witness a mesmerizing sunrise over the Sahara Desert, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. Your journey continues with a visit to Rissani, once the capital of the Tafilalet region and an important trading hub. Explore the lively souk (market), especially vibrant on market days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays). Next, drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad before reaching the Todra Gorges. Carved by the Todra River, this dramatic canyon features towering red cliffs, a favorite spot for rock climbers. Take some time to explore the gorges and admire the stunning surroundings. After lunch, head to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. Stop to admire the famous “monkey fingers” rock formations and enjoy panoramic views of the valley from a scenic overlook. Spend the night in a charming hotel nestled in the valley, enjoying a peaceful evening and delicious dinner.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech [342 km]
On the final day of your 4-day desert tour, journey through the picturesque Rose Valley, famous for its annual Rose Festival in May, where locals sell a variety of rose-based products, including perfumes and cosmetics. Visit the well-preserved Amridil Kasbah, nestled among the palm groves of Skoura. Next, travel back to Ouarzazate for lunch before heading back to Marrakech. As you retrace your route through the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, take in the awe-inspiring landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains one last time. Arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon, where your tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation or the airport.
